Pit Bull Saves Woman from Attacker in Home Invasion

A 20-year-old Indiana woman says that her loyal dogs saved her during an attempted home invasion on Wednesday. Valparaiso police reported to an apartment in the 100 block of Madison Street yesterday after the woman answered a knock from a man at the front door. When she looked through the peephole, she says she recognized the man. He had been at her apartment two weeks ago asking for someone who didn’t live there. She told police that she called for her sleeping boyfriend to wake up and opened the door a few inches with a security chain still in place.

Chicago Dog saved from rush hour traffic

A TV helicopter crew in Chicago spotted a stray dog running along the shoulder of Interstate 55 and followed it off the Stevenson Expressway.Police and others were seen trying to rescue the dog.. And he was just like just barking at me and he rolled to his belly and that’s when I just grabbed him,said Terriquez.The dog’s microchip shows the Bichon Frise-Poodle mix is registered to a puppy mill in Iowa.Aside from dehydration and exhaustion, the dog is in excellent health and will soon be looking for a good home.

75 Year Old Woman Fights off Two Cougars to Save Dog

Jackie Simonson, a 75-year old Canadian woman, is credited for saving her pet dog when they encountered two cougars. The feline predators started chasing the small terrier and one of them grabbed a hold of its throat. Simonson’s protective instincts kicked in and she found herself attacking the cougar in order to save her dog’s life.

Disabled Veterans United Airlines Nightmare: Service Dog Kicked, Cancelled Flights, Called Retarded

Jim Stanek, a disabled veteran and one of the founders of Paws and Stripes, relates his story of maltreatment at the hands of United Airlines. As a veteran of three tours in Iraq, Stanek was diagnosed with PTSD and brain injury, and now relies on Sarge, his dog, to help him through the day. For his United Airlines treatment, Stanek endured delayed flights, lost luggage, verbal abuse, and having his service dog kicked off the airport.

Miracle beagle among finalists for hero dog award

Daniel, a beagle and fox hound mix, is now one of the finalists of the American Humane Association’s 2012 Hero Dog Awards. The dog is known as the miracle beagle for having survived a gas chamber treatment intended to euthanize stray dogs. His survival made him popular with the media and sped his adoption with a local family.
